Game Salad

http://gamesalad.com/

Game Salad is a tool for Mac users to develop your own games and export then in any format you want. It's great for producers who are not familiar with coding to dive in and add some logic to a basic prototype and test your ideas.

It's in Beta so its still a little buggy for me and crashes a lot (but that could also be cause I have an older Mac), but it's pretty fun and helps you give a better understanding of logic without code.

Hacking Cookie Monster

I went to a physical interface computing workshop last night, and we hacked together an "wellness office companion" in about 1 hour, using a sacrificial Cookie plush, arduino, vibration motor, buttons, lights, etc - and thought I would share!

We prototyped an office companion that would indicate when you should take a break to improve your mental health. After you self-reported feeling bad 5 times in a row (pressing the red button), it would incessantly vibrate / make noise, giving you an incentive to go outside and take a 5-10 min. break for yourself (since this is hard for some of us!).

In a future prototype, we wanted to include a photocell that would indicate on the companion (which you would take outside) that you had been outside for a healthy amount of time.

PBS Kids launches 40 educational digital games

PBS Kids has released its largest offering of interactive math content aimed at kids ages two to eight that includes 40 free cross-platform games that can be played both at home and in schools.
Housed within the new PBS Kids Lab website, the games center around PBS media properties. Each suite links a set of games across platforms – accessible through computers, mobile devices and interactive whiteboards – so that kids can engage with the same characters as they move from device to device.
